I finished some of my new earrings that are heading to Chattanooga, TN for our annual opening at In-Town Gallery. The opening is on Friday, and since I mailed everything Priority Mail, it should get there in time (fingers crossed)!
I had an interesting time getting it mailed-the post offices here take an hour for lunch and close down. I didn't know that! So, I had some time to kill before I had to be back and I found an art store near the post office. I met a very interesting man, Huberto Maestas, a sculptor, a humble artist by the way-I had no idea until I got home and looked up his work that he is well...renowned! He has work in many private and public collections, the Vatican...the list goes on!
Here is an example of his amazing vision and skill-(this is from the website above)

Yes indeed...he is very talented. And I might add, extremely nice. While I was browsing, a young woman that works at the Artisan was asking him about his work and the processes involved. He was curious about her interest, and took his time about giving her good information and answering her questions. It was a very pleasant way to spend my afternoon, and who knows, a new young dynamo sculptor may have been born today. I believe there are no coincidences...every person you meet in life is there for a very particular reason. You just have to look, listen and be open to all opportunities.
Based on my conversation with Huberto and the nice young woman that helped me, I am going to purchase some wax in Santa Fe next weekend and start doing some wax casting. I had a small taste of wax sculpture when I was working with John Beirle in Black Mountain, NC in the Spring.
I made this ring out of wax, and John sent it to a place in Philadelphia to cast it. After we got the ring back, I cut and set the Lapis. Shayne wears this ring a lot, as the square shank is quite comfortable. I won't be able to do inlay work while we are on the road, but I can make some neat cast pieces. I ran into a jewelry designer at Eske's the other night, and she has some pretty amazing cast pendants that revved up my imagination. Shayne has been gently nudging me to buy the wax, and after my run in today with Huberto Maestas, I am sensing that Spirit is egging me on too.
Other then that, I came home and took some photos of our backyard. We have a cattail pond and it makes for some interesting photographic play...I am also including in tonight's photography showcase a couple of pairs of earrings that I sent off to Chattanooga.
When you hope and wish, you set into motion the events that you want to occur. Then the fun begins! You will meet people that will say just the right thing to spur you on. Helper Angels come in all shapes and sizes and chances are you met one today. I think I did. He helped two artists come closer to realizing their potential, just by being himself.
